SUSAN VAN TASSEL
Founder and Owner
Senior Accountant & Bookkeeper
Since 1981, Susan has worked in non-profit as well as for profit Accounting and Bookkeeping.
A resident of Columbia County her whole life, Susan learned bookkeeping at an early age having been trained by her mother at her first job at age 18. Susan attended school at night at Columbia Greene Community College and then Sage College of Albany where she received her graduate degree in Accounting.
Along with her education, Susan received on-the-job training as a Para-Professional Accountant with Pattison, Koskey, Howe and Bucci (now known as UHY Inc.) She moved on from there to work for The Shaker Museum and Library as Financial Manager and The Columbia Land Conservancy as Accounting Coordinator.
In 2013 Susan decided to go out on her own and provide bookkeeping and accounting services for local small for-profit and not-for-profit companies. Over the last 7 years her business has bloomed to include 3 staff members and serves 27 local businesses.
Mimí has been with us since 2016, when SVT Bookkeeping was run in a home-office. An integral part of the team, she goes on-site to visit clients and do their weekly work. When she is in-office, her roles include supervising data entry and providing monthly reports. She leads the setting up our clients' payroll systems while also managing SVT's day-to-day projects.
Originally from San Francisco, CA, she received her Bachelors degree in the UK in 2015 and has since been living in Columbia County, enjoying the nature and diverse experiences it has to offer.
SHANNON VAN TASSEL
Shannon's attention to detail keeps the office in order and running smoothly. She assists SVT Bookkeeping with our largest client, managing multiple large projects at a time and taking a hands-on approach in assisting with cash flow and billing for a local construction company.
As a part of the SVT team since 2017, Shannon is familiar with the local people and is the friendly face you see upon entering the office.
Katie Joern is a junior bookkeeper at SVT Bookkeeping with extensive experience in customer service and organizational skills. As an entry level bookkeeper, she is responsible for data entry, filing, corresponding with clients and continuously learning new bookkeeping tasks under close supervision of Susan Van Tassel and Mimí Folco. Prior to joining SVT Bookkeeping Ms. Joern worked as a Paralegal at Attorney James Kleinbaum’s office. When Katie is not in the office, you can find her serving tables on Warren Street, Hudson at La Mision or enjoying the great outdoors of Columbia County.
